In 8th grade health class they did a “Rank our Snack" activity. Questions to ask are: Which snack was the healthiest that they had? Which snack had the most sugar? Which snack had the most protein? Which snack had the most fat?




The 8th grade students learned about Digital Citizenship today in FACS class. Edutech and the McLean County Sheriff’s Department presented on how to stay safe when using social media.

8th grade discovering Pi lesson. The students drew a circle with a radius of 7 cm using a ruler and compass. They then placed M&Ms around the outer edge and from edge to edge through the center. We then counted the number of M&Ms around the outside, which is called the circumference, and the number of M&Ms edge to edge through the center, which is called diameter. They then divided the circumference by diameter and discovered the quotient was approximately 3.14!!!! Questions to ask your student: What is the formula to find the circumference of a circle? Ask them to recite Pi to 5 decimal places. Did you enjoy eating the M&Ms when you completed the activity?




January 26 activity update: No JV/V girls' basketball game in Wilton this evening, the game has been postponed to tomorrow night in conjunction with the boys' games. No C squad boys game tomorrow. Tomorrow's game schedule will go 3:00 JV girls, 4:30 JV boys, 6:00 V girls, and 7:30 V boys.

2nd grade explored different percussion sounds in music class this week. They had to find instruments that made a ‘scratching’ sound and instruments that made a ‘boom’ sound. Questions to ask your students: What instruments did you play in music this week? What did they sound like?


5th and 6th grade created frozen pictures/statues in music class this week. They recreated historical events, movie scenes, and portrayed emotions. They talked about what a tableau is and how to express emotion through pictures, poems, and sounds. Questions to ask your students: What is a tableau? What does creating a tableau have to do with music?




Sixth grade recently finished a STEM project on catapults. They learned about 2 kinds of catapults (mangonel and trebuchet) and built a catapult prototype according to certain criteria and constraints. They used marshmallows as ammunition and graphed the results. Questions to ask them are: What type of catapult did your team build? How could you improve your catapult?

The Biology students are working through their Molecular Biology unit, and last week they made candy DNA molecules and extracted DNA from strawberries. Some questions you could ask these students are:
1. What did the extraction buffer do to the strawberry cells?
2. What are 2 structural differences between DNA and RNA?




2nd grade made paper quilts for art!
Questions to ask your students: 1. How did you make your paper soft like a quilt? 2. What did you use to color your quilt and why?




The Hazen Bison Boosters is hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on Saturday, March 11th in Hazen. Registration is first come first serve per division, but the deadline to register is March 1st.
