This summer she enjoyed time with family and friends at the lake and in the pool. She is looking forward to greeting every student and guest that walks in our school each morning! This year she is going to "Make IT Count" by making every student and staff member at TL-M feel seen and heard because they are important!

Mr. Vasbinder's seventh graders did a mock trial for the story The Telltale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe.
Ask your student what side (prosecution or defense) they were on and how the trial ended.

Thanks to Mrs. Slavik, Mrs. Buchholz’s Nutrition & Food Prep class has been working on their sourdough starters this week. Today, they used the discard to make sourdough waffles! A couple of questions for these students are: What is all in a sourdough starter? What do you have to do each day to the sourdough starter? What is the discard?

Our staff highlight of the day is Rhonda Martwick! Rhonda is our assistant cook and is in her 2nd year at TL-M. This summer she took a road trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. We appreciate you!!

This morning, Mrs. Anderson's 5th grade is working on a Halloween Escape Room about making inferences. We are working in teams to solve 5 puzzles. The winning team gets to choose the movie for our party (we have 2 choices).
Questions to ask your student:
How do we make inferences when reading a text? What information can we used to make good inferences and why is this skill important for reading??

Miss Gould’s 3rd grade has been learning about types of maps and important components on a map. They created a pirate map that led to buried treasure. Each student created a pirate map that included a map title, map key, and compass rose. They added the land features from their map key and created a path to their treasure, then created step by step directions using their cardinal directions to lead to the buried treasure.
What are important map features?
What are the cardinal directions?
Why is a map key important?

Preschool learned about teamwork and cooperation today in Mrs. Slavik's classroom. First, they read a short story about their circus friends and how teamwork helps us to be successful. Then, they split into 2 teams where each team member was given a different shape of magnet tiles. Each team had to use teamwork to share their shapes and help build the tallest tower they could!
Questions to ask your student include:
1: What are 3 parts of teamwork you learned about?
2: Why is teamwork important?
3: How did you use teamwork to build your tower?

Good Afternoon,
The Turtle Lake-Mercer Administration team is monitoring the weather that we are anticipating. We will continue to communicate through our app, Facebook, and text messages if we make changes to the school day schedule. If we transition to a virtual day, plans have been sent home with elementary students and can be found at https://www.tlm.k12.nd.us/ under the "Explore" tab, then "Documents", then "Virtual Learning Days". Students in grades 7-12 have access to learning activities through Google Classroom or activities that have been sent home by individual teachers. Thank you for your patience as we monitor the weather conditions.
Mrs. B’s Independent Living class wrapped up their communication unit today by making cup phones. A couple of questions to ask these students are:
Explain ways to be an active listener.
What is the communication process?
Explain how an assertive, passive and aggressive listener responds.
