After learning about healthy foods grown in North Dakota, third graders worked together with the FACS Independent Living class to make a recipe for Chickpea Chocolate Cake (cupcakes) given to them from the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. Third graders came to the FACS room and helped prepare the ingredients, fill the muffin tins, and kept track of the timers for the ovens. A couple of questions to ask these students are:
What ingredients did you use for this recipe? How did you combine the ingredients? What did you think of the cupcakes?

Congratulations to Burke Fiedler. He is the newest entry into the Million Word Club!

The FACS 8 class has just finished up lessons from the NDSU Extension Office. Students learned the ins and outs of nutrition and how to eat healthy. Thank you to Kamile for the wonderful lessons and treats! A couple of questions for these students would be: What are key macronutrients in our diets? What are amino acids? How can we tell if our protein is complete or incomplete? What are supplements and why do people consume them?

Third graders had a fun and healthy experience making and tasting an edamame trail mix, thanks to a special activity provided by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. The students combined ingredients like dried edamame, chocolate covered raisins, cinnamon sunflower seeds, and other tasty items to create their own unique snack. As they mixed and tasted, they also learned about healthy foods grown in North Dakota, especially pulses like edamame. The hands-on activity helped them explore new flavors while learning about nutrition and agriculture.
Questions to ask a third grader:
What was your favorite ingredient in the trail mix?
What is an example of a pulse?
