Mr. Vasbinder says he loves helping students grow up; he also loves the snacks.

February 14-21 is #LOVETEACHING week. We will be featuring our TL-M teachers and the reasons why they love teaching starting tomorrow!

Third grade has finished one of our big projects for the year. This European Explorer activity ends our unit and is such a fun way for kids to research. Each team was assigned an explorer and had to look up facts about each. We then created life size versions of our explorers. We traced bodies then used poster paper, tin foil, tissue paper, and any other classroom items to create! They all did such a great job!
Questions to ask your student:
What explorer did your group have and what was your responsibility?
What country did your explorer come from and what was he looking for?

REMINDER: TL-M will have school on Monday, February 20. This is a make up day for the snow days we had off in December. If your student will be absent please call the office to let us know.

Third grade is learning all about fractions. This week we worked on comparing fractions tool determine which one was greater or if they were equivalent. We used fraction tiles to create the fractions and to make equivalent fractions. This activity really helps students to see how fractions represent parts of a whole and why we use them!
Questions for your student:
What are the 2 numbers in a fraction called and what does each number represent?
Why do we use the “fishing strategy” when comparing fractions?

Turtle Lake-Mercer FCCLA competed in district competition in Tioga. Mya, Sadie, and Averie received bronze awards. Kensley received a silver award and advanced to state competition. Great job!

In 8th grade health class they did a “Rank our Snack" activity. Questions to ask are: Which snack was the healthiest that they had? Which snack had the most sugar? Which snack had the most protein? Which snack had the most fat?

The 8th grade students learned about Digital Citizenship today in FACS class. Edutech and the McLean County Sheriff’s Department presented on how to stay safe when using social media.

8th grade discovering Pi lesson. The students drew a circle with a radius of 7 cm using a ruler and compass. They then placed M&Ms around the outer edge and from edge to edge through the center. We then counted the number of M&Ms around the outside, which is called the circumference, and the number of M&Ms edge to edge through the center, which is called diameter. They then divided the circumference by diameter and discovered the quotient was approximately 3.14!!!! Questions to ask your student: What is the formula to find the circumference of a circle? Ask them to recite Pi to 5 decimal places. Did you enjoy eating the M&Ms when you completed the activity?
