5th grade finished up their “stars” unit and our final project was a science project that students had to compete at home. We had about 3 weeks to create a 3D representation of a constellation of their choice.
There was not only a creative component to this project but we had to use some math as well. Students researched each star of their constellation including their distances from earth. When creating their model, they measured distances for their stars by converting each 10 light years into centimeters and had to place their stars accordingly!
This assignment also included a research paper about their constellation and we worked on those in class.
Questions to ask you student:
What was the hardest part of constructing your model and why?
What is the mythology about your constellation?

4th Grade students are studying collisions. Here are some questions to ask about their activity.
How did energy transfer from the ball to the cork? Which type of ball made the cork travel the furthest? What is the energy of motion called?
