Turtle Lake-Mercer School will be represented by two teams at the High School Math Meet in Wilton on Wednesday, November 15th. Bjorn Anderson, McKenna Faulkner, Remi Laib, Cole Makeeff (not pictured), Karson Rust, and Charlotte Wilson make up the 11th-12th Grade Team with Andrew Eichhorst as an alternate. Ariel Gilseth, Aiden Hanson, Bridger Rittenbach (not pictured), Jacob Wolf, Jonas Christensen, and Connor Fiedler (not pictured) will represent the 9th-10th Grade Team with Kaden Lelm and Zella Anderson as alternates. Mrs. Wyman's 1st grade has been practicing their rhythms using “pancake rhythms.” They take turns making patterns out of pancake toppings and play the rhythms on the drums.
Ask your child: What rhythms did you learn in music? What is the pancake poem? What are the rhythms of the pancake toppings?

Turtle Lake-Mercer School was honored to have members of the Turtle Lake American Legion and Veterans from the Turtle Lake and Mercer area as guests for breakfast today. On behalf of Turtle Lake-Mercer School, we would like to extend a very special thank you to all veterans for their service to our country.
Mrs. Slavik and the 9th and 10th graders took a trip to Minot to attend the Minot Area Career Expo today. Students got to participate in many different hands-on experiences to learn about a number of different careers, companies, colleges, and training programs!
Questions to ask your students about their experience include:
1: What was your favorite booth you visited with on Floor C? (First floor visited)
2: What was the most memorable experience you had on Floor A? (Second floor visited)
3: What stood out to you most while on Floor B? (Last floor visited)
Today Mrs. Schumann's 6th graders read their spooky stories to the 3rd graders. They read with flashlights and used their voice for expression. Ask these students: What is a protagonist and antagonist? What was the twist in your story?
Attention 10th through 12th grade families:
Washburn High School is hosting a Financial Aid night coming up on November 14th from 6:30-8:30 PM. This opportunity is for both parents and students. The night is split between different presentations: 2 for students, and 2 for parents.
The information for students is being offered for grades 10-12, so that the planning process can begin earlier than senior year. The first student presentation will be given by the Bank of North Dakota on financial literacy. The second session will be on Dollars for Scholars profiles (TL-M students do already get a lot of assistance and direction on this and this would not be directly related to the TL-M chapter scholarship). If students do wish to attend the Dollars for Scholars workshop, please make sure they bring their own laptop to the event.
Parents can choose to attend one or both of the presentations being offered. The first presentation will be on the new ND State Scholarship requirements and the second presentation will be given by BND on the new FAFSA form and changes in addition to how BND can help with student loans.

Today our staff highlight is Mr. Joi Anderson! Joi has been the head custodian at TL-M for 10 years, he has also coached basketball for 20 years. This summer he spent time camping, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids. He also did several landscaping projects and had open gyms for his basketball players. This year he is looking forward to seeing and visiting with students and staff every day! He is also excited for basketball season to start; he is excited to see great things from his team! Joi is going to "Make IT Count" by reminding his players to be leaders on and off the court and by making sure our school building is one that we can take pride in!! Thank you, Joi, for being part of our TL-M team! We appreciate all you do!

Today our staff highlight is Mrs. Sheila Schlafmann. Mrs. Schlafmann is the Superintendent at TL-M, this is her 11th year here! This summer she enjoyed time with family and friends at the lake and in the pool. She is looking forward to greeting every student and guest that walks in our school each morning! This year she is going to "Make IT Count" by making every student and staff member at TL-M feel seen and heard because they are important!
Mr. Vasbinder's seventh graders did a mock trial for the story The Telltale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe.
Ask your student what side (prosecution or defense) they were on and how the trial ended.
Thanks to Mrs. Slavik, Mrs. Buchholz’s Nutrition & Food Prep class has been working on their sourdough starters this week. Today, they used the discard to make sourdough waffles! A couple of questions for these students are: What is all in a sourdough starter? What do you have to do each day to the sourdough starter? What is the discard?
Our staff highlight of the day is Rhonda Martwick! Rhonda is our assistant cook and is in her 2nd year at TL-M. This summer she took a road trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. This year she is looking forward to seeing everyone, students and staff, every day! Rhonda is going to "Make IT Count" this year by making the best school lunches! Thank you, Rhonda, for all you do!
