Today in 5th grade, we made ice cream! We are studying all about states of matter in science and this activity taught us how applying energy (cold) to a state matter (liquid) can change it into a different state. Into a small ziplock bag we measured cream, milk, sugar, and flavored extract and then added the sealed bag to a larger bag of ice. Adding course salt to the ice made it even colder (my salt was pink Himalayan hence the pink color). A little food coloring and lots of bag churning and we eventually ended up with the “solidification” of our liquid into ice cream!
Questions to ask your student:
What was the hardest part about making the ice cream?
What flavor did your group make?
What energy force caused the liquid to change to a solid?

The 2024 Central McLean Cougar Homecoming Parade will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 20th. We are still in need of some people willing to drive the Homecoming Kings and Queens from all three schools in the parade. If you or someone you know has a convertible to drive these students, that would be greatly appreciated. Another option that was thought of was to transport the Kings and Queens in golf carts. If you would be willing to drive either of these options, please reach out to Mr. Ziebarth.
Also, Community Floats are welcome in the parade. Parade lineup will be in the school parking lot with a start time of 1:00 PM.
Coronation was held today! Congratulations to our 2024-25 Homecoming King, Wyatt Wagner, & Queen, Sadie O'Shea.
